Veolia Water is present in the United Arab Emirates since February 2006, since the signature of a 25-year contract to operate the future wastewater network of Ajman (capital of the Ajman Emirate, 235 000 inhabitants). This was the first deal outsourcing a wastewater service to a private operator in a Gulf country. Through its subsidiary Moalajah, two third of which it owns, Veolia will be responsible for operating and maintaining the facilities as they start up, in addition to customer billing and consolidation, as of 2009.
In December 2007, Veolia Water was awarded a 12-year contract for the operation & Maintenance of the desalination plant using reverse osmosis of the Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP) in Qidfa, Fujairah. The plant will produce 136 500 m3 per day of desalinated water starting in the summer of 2010.
After more than two years of intense business developments, Veolia Water establishes its presence in the region confirming its competitive edge by opening its new Branch Office in Abu Dhabi. The opening of this Branch Office (March 30th, 2008) embodies the installation of Veolia Water in the Middle East and will enable us to further improve our capacity for providing well tailored solutions for the fast-growing Middle East region.
